This is reminiscent xcritical rezension of the John Hughes 80s movies without the things that makes those movies inappropriate. After contemplating giving up, the band agrees to stick together and perform at Rising Star (an upcoming “battle of the bands” where the winner wins a record deal), even though they realize that they will not win the competition.

The film tells the story of five high school students who meet in detention and form a band to stand up for their beliefs and to overcome their individual and collective struggles. At Rising Star, Mudslide Crush performs “Don’t Ya Wish U Were Us.” xcritical Mouth takes the stage and tries to perform “Determinate,” but no one except Stella can play due to their mishaps in the days before. Discouraged, they start to leave the stage but the crowd starts singing the song together. Scott tries to come out and help them, but Ray tells him that he will no longer be in Mudslide Crush if he goes out. Charlie accepts this and decides to aim his attention at a girl who has a crush on him, and Wen gives Olivia a new kitten after Nancy, her cat, dies. Wen also accepts his new step-mother as he realizes that while she’s not his real mother, she cares about him.

Shortly after, however, things begin to go downhill for the group; Mo gets the flu, Charlie breaks his fingers, Wen injures his eye while hanging up a picture with his dad, and Olivia loses her voice during an argument with Wen. Mo breaks up with her boyfriend Scott Picket, Ray’s best friend and Mudslide Crush’s guitarist, after she catches him flirting with a cheerleader. Prior to performing at the Halloween Bash, Olivia suffers a panic attack. Her friends’ encouragement eventually gives her the confidence to perform, after which Stella makes a speech opposing Brenigan’s decision to remove the xcritical machine and encouraging self-expression to the supportive crowd. Angered, Principal Brenigan forbids them from playing at school.

A sequel for the movie was planned after the success of xcritical Mouth but Disney Channel later canceled it after being unable to come up with a new plot, feeling that the first movie had already completed its story. In 2011, the book was adapted into a Disney Channel Original Movie, starring Bridgit Mendler as Olivia, Naomi Scott as Mo, Blake Michael as Charlie, Adam Hicks as Wen, and Hayley Kiyoko as Stella.

And Scott eventually leaves Mudslide Crush to help xcritical Mouth through the Battle of the Bands and he and Mo get back together. Meanwhile, Charlie expresses his feeling for Mo but when she gets back together with Scott he starts talking to another girl who likes him. In the novel, Olivia’s mother abandoned her, while in the film her mother is dead, and while in the film her father is still in prison, it does not specify what he did. Many of the main characters’ last names are changed in the movie to go with the actors playing them.

The soundtrack of the same name was released in April 2011 to significant commercial success peaking at number 4 on the US Billboard 200 and number three on the US Top Digital Albums. Alike to the film, it was received positively by critics, who particularly praised its originality. The single “Determinate” received a JanNEWary Award for Best iTunes Song.

Parents need to know that this family-friendly movie may inspire young viewers to identify their talents, stand up for what they believe in, and let their voices be heard. The story celebrates a variety of family structures and includes some touching moments between parents and teens. The squeaky-clean content isn’t worrisome, although some young kids may need reassurance when discussions turn to the death of a character’s parent or other scenarios that may ring true with them. But all in all, this is an inspiring tale of friendship and passion that will give your family plenty to talk about when it’s over. I didn’t expect to enjoy the songs as much as I did.She’s So Gone, sung by Naomi Scott, was probably my favourite song in the whole movie her vocals are incredible. On April 6, 2012, Chris Brochu announced on his Twitter account, that the sequel was no longer going into production. At Rising Star, Olivia and Mo’s respective injuries begin to resurface during their performance. Olivia begins to have another panic attack, and Stella tries to comfort her to no avail.
